AI Slop Index: May 2026

Overall Index Value: 64.2 / 100

The AI Slop Index measures the overall saturation, growth rate, and impact of AI-generated low-quality content across major digital platforms. A score of 0 represents no detectable AI slop; 100 represents theoretical maximum saturation. The index is a composite of platform saturation, growth velocity, content quality degradation, and detection difficulty.

Index Components

Component Score Weight Trend
Platform Saturation 58.4 30% Rising
Growth Velocity 78.2 25% Accelerating
Quality Degradation 62.1 20% Worsening
Detection Difficulty 71.5 15% Increasing
Economic Incentive Strength 82.3 10% Strengthening

Platform Breakdown

Platform Platform Score Monthly Change
Pinterest 72.4 +3.1
YouTube 65.8 +2.4
X/Twitter 68.1 +4.2
Facebook 61.5 +1.8
TikTok 59.3 +1.5

Geographic Breakdown

Region Index Score Notable Trend
North America 64.2 Baseline
Europe 58.7 Slower growth, stricter regulation
Southeast Asia 72.1 Highest saturation, fastest growth
Latin America 55.3 Growing, primarily in Portuguese/Spanish
Middle East/Africa 48.6 Emerging, concentrated in specific markets

Key Observations

  1. Pinterest leads in saturation growth — visual platforms remain the easiest targets for AI-generated content
  2. X/Twitter shows fastest monthly acceleration — reduced moderation capacity correlates with increased AI content
  3. Detection difficulty is increasing faster than detection capability — the gap between generation and detection technology is widening
  4. Economic incentives remain overwhelmingly favorable for AI slop production — no significant market corrections observed

Methodology

The AI Slop Index is calculated monthly using a weighted composite of 23 sub-indicators across platform sampling, content analysis, economic modeling, and detection benchmarking. Full methodology available in our Measurement Framework.

Next Update

The June 2026 AI Slop Index will be published on June 1, 2026.
